    "Entering the Dragon" – ASK sets foot in China

    After 15 years, Aikido Shinju-Kai setting foot to have its Headquarters, a Training Centre and office in China.

    The "History Changer"

    Started the very first “Keiko Hajime”, a traditional and meaningful event that will be held annually henceforth, for all dedicated Martial Artist that signifies the commencement of first training class for the year.

    Chosen by the Singapore People’s Association to be the official representing Aikido group for Singapore in the National Chingay Parade, where the Guest-of-Honours were Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong (Parade 1) and President Tony Tan (Parade 2).

    Demonstrated in front of over 180,000 spectators and broadcasted in media and on television to over 24 territories, reaching more than 30 million viewers across Asia.

    Aikido Shinju-Kai Headquarters have yet again been invited to have her Headquarters at the very prestigious Police Clubhouse – HomeTeamNS-JOM Clubhouse (Balestier)

    SG50 cum 3rd All Aikido Shinju-Kai Demonstration and Seminar

    Commemorating Singapore’s 50th Anniversary. Aikido Shinju-Kai organised the SG50 cum 3rd All Aikido Shinju-Kai Demonstration and Seminar held at the Toa Payoh Sports Centre.

    In a combined effort and initiated by Mr. Charlie Lim, a similar event was held for the first time in history where the five founding fathers of Aikido in Singapore – Shihan Harry Ng, Shihan George Chang, Shihan Philip Lee, Sensei Freddy Khong and Sensei Seah Ah Hee came together in organising the SG50 Seminar for all in Singapore.

    Aikido Shinju-Kai gifted with a 800 years old Katana

    Gifted by Mr. Masaki Tani, Director of the International Affairs Department from the Aikido World Headquarters, Japan – The heritage Katana, certified by Japan’s fine art Katana Preservation Foundation is a valuable recognition for the growth of Aikido Shinju-Kai in Singapore, the loyalty and the symbol of Friendship.

    Sensei Aloyseus and Sensei Alexander were the second batch of Singaporeans that were given the privilege to train at the Aikido World Headquarters, Japan, as a live-in-student for five weeks.

    The Leading and Premier Aikido Organisation in Singapore

    Celebrated Aikido Shinju-Kai’s 25th Anniversary with guest of honour, Mr. Masaki Tani, Director of International Affairs Department from the Aikido World Headquarters, Japan. The anniversary saw the accomplishment and dedication of Shinju-Kai’s growth as Singapore’s leading Aikido organisation with 48 dojos locally and 30 dojos in China, Indonesia and Malaysia.

    Aikido Shinju-Kai was recognised by Singapore and accredited through two major awards from the Small Medium Business Association.

    Strong Advocate of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

    Conducted a huge Donation Drive and Combined Training across Singapore to raise awareness for the victims of Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami in 2011, in a single day, the event saw a collection of S$32,270.00 for the victims in Japan.

    In another event, a combined efforts sees a total of S$350,000.00 raised in a month for the annual “BARE YOUR SOLE WALKATON”

    Aikido Shinju-Kai continued to spread Aikido and have always been a strong advocate in giving back to the society and actively participates in charitable projects since then.

    Aikido Shinju-Kai relocated her Headquarters for the third time to ECM Building at Sims Avenue.

    The first organisation to introduce Aikido to Pre-school Children from as young as 3 years of age through her innovation – “AikiForest” , the world’s first Aikido school for pre-schoolers.

    The 1st International Friendship Seminar

    The 1st Intentional Friendship Seminar (IFS) was organised. Seeing the allegiance of participating countries such as Japan, The United Kingdom, Canada and Belgium.

    Aikido Shinju-Kai Headquarters also relocated to Poh Leng Building at Moonstone Lane.

    Growing Reputation throughout the world

    Besides being well known in Asia, friendship seminars were organised with visits to United Kingdom, United Stated and Canada, Toronto.

    The 1st All Aikido Shinju-Kai Demonstration and Youth Aikido Meet

    Celebrated her 20th Anniversary with the honour of having Shihan Hiroshi Tada (9th Dan) to graced this celebration along with several renowned instructors and participants from 17 countries, a total of more than 800 participants is recorded.

    Aikido Shinju-Kai also organised the very first ever Aikido Demonstration held at the Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza with the demonstration graced by Mr. Oon Jin Teik, CEO of Singapore Sports Council and the Ambassador of Japan, his Excellency Mr. Makoto Yamanaka.

    The first Youth Aikido Meet was realised to create a platform for young aspiring practitioners to gain greater awareness of Aikido in Singapore.

    Recognised by the Ministry of Education and Singapore Sports Council

    Aikido Shinju-Kai is the sole provider of Aikido programmes to over thousands of students in various schools through the Singapore Sports Council, Ministry of Education Sports Education Programme.

    The Development of Aikido Shinju-Kai

    Moving towards her expansion overseas. Aikido Shinju-Kai now holds her foothold with 12 new dojos located overseas. Having her dojos in Malaysia, China and Indonesia along with 31 new dojos opened locally.

    Aikido Shinju-Kai at the Singapore Airlines (SIA)

    The first Aikido organisation to officially have a dojo within the Singapore Airlines, training its pilots and cabin crews under the Martial Arts Circle Group (MAC).

    Aikido Shinju-Kai’s First permanent Headquarters (HQ)

    The first Aikido organisation in Singapore to have established a permanent Headquarters Training Centre and office at the HomeTeamNS – Balestier at Ah Hood Road and was officiated by Masuda Seijuro Shihan (8th Dan) from the Aikido World Headquarters, Japan.

    Aikido Shinju-Kai also celebrated her 15th Anniversary in 2003. With distinguished Guest-of- Honour, Shihan Hiroshi Tada (9th Dan) from Aikido World Headquarters, Japan to graced the occasion along with several renowned instructors. A stunning gift of appreciation to our distinguish guest by honouring Shihan Hiroshi Tada with an orchid plant naming after him – “Dendrobium Shihan Hiroshi Tada” (Official registered with The International Orchid Registrar, England).

    Organised the first Aikido Dan grading examination in the People’s Republic of China by Aikido World Headquarters, Japan – Hombu, Kanazawa Takeshi Shihan.

    First expansion into China

    Aikido Shinju-Kai spread her wings into China with the blessing from the Aikido World Headquarters, Japan. The first Dojo was born in Shanghai, located at Xu Jia Hui Sports Centre.

    Aikido to new heights (Hombu Official Recognition & SAF)

    Aikido Shinju-Kai gave an impressive public demonstration in front of over 3000 Police officers at the 53rd Police Sports Carnival, including many senior officers and the Commissioner of Police, Mr Khoo Boon Hui.

    Introduced and taught Aikido to the Singapore National Army for the next 10 years, along with the establishment of the very first dojo within the Singapore Armed Forces; the Singapore Infantry Brigade (Guards Unit).

    Aikido Shinju-Kai received her Official Recognition from Hombu Dojo Aikido World Headquarters, Japan.

    A major breakthrough by becoming the first Aikido organisation to introduce Aikido teachings to the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and establishing the very first dojo within the SAF for next decade

    Aikido Shinju-Kai’s 12th Anniversary

    Marked the beginning of a new era with the celebration of her 12th Anniversary in August, 2000. Prominent Guest-of-Honour, Shihan Yoshiaki Yokota (7th Dan) from Hombu Dojo graced the occasion along with several distinguished guests; Hironobu Yamada Shihan (7th Dan), Ikuhiro Kubota Shihan (7th Dan) and Kenneth Cottier Shihan (6th Dan).

    The Expansion (The Singapore Police Force & Japanese Association)

    Saw the expansion of 8 new dojos over at the community clubs and introduced Aikido Class to the Ministry of Environment (MOE) and at the Japanese Association.

    The landmark of Introducing Aikido training to the Gurkha Contingent, a special unit of the Singapore Police Force (a total of 10 years contract to train the officers to a proficient level of independent).

    3 new dojos opened, with the first children class at The Pines (then, known as Pinetree Club).

    The Struggle

    Shihan Philip Lee focused on building a strong foundation, discipline and culture in the organization for 8 years before opening her second dojo at ChengSan Community Centre at Ang Mo Kio.

    The Birth of Aikido Shinju-Kai

    Founded by Shihan Philip Lee, started her humble beginning at SAFRA Tampines. This was the training ground that produced the early batch of Instructors and senior students. The pioneer batch of Instructors brought up by Shihan Philip Lee were John Lim, Kelly Tan, Alice Tan and Allan Lai.
