Senior SG50 Class
50 Years and above

At Shinju-Kai, we are proud to have been the only organisation that is providing Aikido classes for the Class 3A elderly in Singapore.

The nature of Aikido, which is based on the fundamental principles of harmony and mutual respect, allows it to be suited for practice by both the young and old alike. The C3A senior citizens’ class aims to train practitioners to stay relaxed yet focused when confronted with an attack. Its focus lies in having a strong mind rather than relying on physical strength.

Aikido provides practitioners with knowledge and skills that will enable them to defend themselves against an opponent of superior size and strength through the use of smooth, fluid and circular movements. It emphasises blending with an opponent’s force rather than meeting it head on, thus requiring the use of minimal physical strength to divert and immobilise the aggressor.

Aikido training can lead to improvements in the cardiovascular system, overall flexibility, and increasing the mental power and focus of practitioners. It is also designed to prevent the risk of injury via proper soft break-fall techniques in the event of accidental falls/slips.

Through the practice of Aikido, individuals can develop character qualities and values such as self-confidence, discipline, respect, and a sense of care and concern for one another. Thus, friendship and camaraderie are fostered through practising the art and Shinju-kai’s teaching methodology.

The programme tailored for Senior Citizens will focus on breathing methodology, having a good posture, relaxation and meditation. Aikido Shinju-kai promotes active ageing and healthy living as a way of life where the elderly can keep fit, stay young at heart and find satisfaction in their life through Aikido.
